The White German Shepherd Dog Club of America, Inc.

WGSDCA Futurity and Maturity

The WGSDCA's purpose is to protect and advance the German Shepherd Dog with a white coat color. In order for the club to show advancement in the breed, it is necessary to have "mile markers" to show how far we have come in our breeding programs. An annual futurity and maturity are held to help us gage our success. Questions regarding futurity or maturity can be directed to webmaster@wgsdca.org.

2008 Futurity

The purpose of the futurity is to showcase the young, up-and-coming dogs in the breed. In order to compete in a futurity, the dog's litter must be nominated by the breeder of record. The breeder must be a member of the WGSDCA or may apply for membership at the time of nomination. Dogs competing in the futurity must be intact (not spayed/neutered) and will be anywhere from 6 months to 18 months of age and will be broken out into four separate classes (divided by sex).

  • Junior (6-9 months)
  • Teenage (9-12 months)
  • Intermediate (12-15 months)
  • Senior (15-18 months)

The futurity will be held at the 2008 national show on Sept. 26, 2008. Prizes will be awarded to Best Male, Reserve Best Male, Best Female, Reserve Best Female, Best in Futurity and Best Opposite Sex in Futurity.

For the 2008 futurity, litters whelped Feb. 29, 2007 - Mar. 1, 2008 are eligible. The deadline for litter nomination is August 1, 2008. The fee for nomination is $25 per litter and is open to white German Shepherd Dogs only (may have "colored" parents). To enter a litter in the 2008 futurity, use the WGSDCA Futurity Entry Form. If you are not a member of the WGSDCA and would like to register a litter, you must also fill out and submit the membership application. More information will be posted on the 2008 Futurity in coming months.

2008 Maturity

In order for a dog to enter the maturity, its litter must have been nominated in the year prior's futurity. The main point of the maturity is to see how the dogs have matured from the futurity judging. Owners of the dog must be a WGSDCA member or apply for membership in order to participate. There will be a $15 entry fee that can be paid by the owner or breeder of record. Dogs competing in the Maturity must be intact (not spayed or neutered). There are two classes for each sex. For the Maturity held at the 2008 National, the age classifications are as follows::

  • Junior (18-25 months)
  • Senior (26-34 months)

The maturity will be held at the 2008 national show on Sept. 26, 2008. Prizes will be awarded to Best Male, Best Female, Reserve Best Male, Reserve Best Female, Best in Maturity and Best Opposite Sex in Maturity. Entry forms will be sent to the breeders who had litters competing in last year's Futurity so the dogs can be entered in this year's maturity.
